QUINCY — An 18-point halftime lead steadily dwindled to four points by the start of the fourth quarter. Yet, the Pittsfield girls basketball team never panicked.

“I like how we never felt like, ‘Oh, my gosh, they’re coming back,’” senior forward Madison Frieden said. “I felt we were pretty level-headed.”

A Frieden layin with four minutes remaining in regulation pushed the Saukees’ lead back to 11 points and they finished off a 65-52 victory in the first game Saturday in the KHQA/American Family Insurance Superfan Shootout at The Pit.

“We figured out we were going to have to push and start expanding the lead a little more,” Frieden said. “We were confident we still had it.”

A big second quarter put the Saukees (23-4)  in control.

Reese Ramsey, the sensational Pittsfield freshman guard, scored 14 points in the second quarter as the lead went from nine points at the end of the first quarter to 37-19 at halftime. Ramsey, who was named the game MVP, finished with a game-high 25 points.

“We were making that extra pass today and really having some good ball movement,” said Frieden, who finished with 14 points.

Lincoln McCartney added 13 points for Pittsfield, while Grace Grothaus led West Hancock with 15 points and Jordyn Climer added 14 points.
