Quincy, Liberty sending eighth grade girls volleyball teams to state tournaments

QUINCY — A pair of eighth grade girls volleyball teams are headed to their respective Illinois Elementary School Association state tournaments.

Quincy Junior High School beat Taylorville 13-25, 25-22, 25-11 in Monday night’s sectional to advance to the Class 4A state tournament. The Comets (27-1) will face Shorewood Troy (12-9) in the state quarterfinals at 5:45 p.m. Friday at Morton Junior High School. The semifinals and championship will be played Saturday.

In Class 2A, Liberty beat New Berlin 25-19, 15-25, 25-8 in Monday’s sectional in Mt. Sterling to advance. The Eagles (21-4) will face Brimfield (15-12) in the state quarterfinals at 8:15 p.m. Friday at Auburn High School. The semifinals and championship will be played Saturday.
