QND cross country teams both finish second at regional, Liberty’s Obert in top five in boys race

RUSHVILLE, Ill. — The Quincy Notre Dame boys and girls cross country teams each finished second Saturday in the Class 1A Rushville-Industry Regional at Scripps Park.

On the boys side, in a race dominated by runners from Pleasant Plains, four area runners finished in the top 10 individually.

Liberty junior Lane Obert was sixth in 16:17.60, while Pleasant Hill senior Lane Hubbard was sixth in 16:30.80. Liberty sophomore Blaine Deege was ninth in 16:46.70, while QND senior Oliver Moore was 10th in 16:50.80. 

Illini West junior Chase Mudd and freshman Bryar Rodeffer were 11th and 12th, respectively, in 16:53.50 and 16:54.10.

Pleasant Plains won the team title with 33 points, while QND was second with 86. Petersburg PORTA (96), Illini West (116) and Liberty (124) rounded out the top five teams advancing to the Elmwood Sectional, which will take place at Maple Lane Country Club in Elmwood.

On the girls side, QND placed two runners in the top 10, while Pleasant Plains had five of the top nine spots.

Raiders freshman Elcee Waters finished fourth in 19:14.30, while junior Meghan Spears was 10th in 20:17.80. Liberty sophomore Briella Neisen finished 11th in 20:20.40, while Pittsfield junior Kelsey Freesmeyer was 13th in 20:26.60.

Pleasant Plains won the team title with 24 points, while Quincy Notre Dame had 72 points, Pittsfield finished with 110 points, Petersburg PORTA compiled 118 and Liberty had 121.
