QJHS, Liberty eighth grade girls volleyball teams win state quarterfinal matches
QUINCY — The Quincy Junior High School and Liberty eighth grade girls volleyball teams will be bringing trophies home from their respective state tournaments.
QJHS beat Shorewood Troy in straight sets Friday night in the quarterfinals of the Illinois Elementary School Association Class 4A state tournament at Morton Junior High School and will play in the final four on Saturday.
Meanwhile, at Auburn High School, Liberty swept Brimfield in two sets to advance to the semifinals of the Class 2A state tournament and is also guaranteed a top-four finish.
In the Comets’ 25-18, 25-14 victory over Shorewood Troy, Danilee Breckenkamp and Kadence Howard each had six service points. Howard had two of QJHS’s four aces. Quincy (28-1) will face Frankfort Hickory Creek (19-1) at 11 a.m. Saturday in the semifinals. The third-place and championship matches are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., respectively.
In the Eagles’ 25-14, 25-17 victory over Brimfield, Adalyn Logsdon had 10 service points and three aces, while Iyla Cramsey and Kenzie Obert had six service points apiece. Liberty (22-4) will face Bunker Hill Wolf Ridge (20-1-1) at 12:15 p.m. Saturday in the semifinals. The third-place and championship matches are scheduled for 2 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., respectively.
