QJHS finishes third at IESA Class 4A state volleyball tourney, Liberty takes fourth in Class 2A

QUINCY — The Quincy Junior High School eighth grade girls volleyball team finished third at the Illinois Elementary School Association Class 4A state tournament, while the Liberty eighth graders took fourth at the Class 2A state tournament.

QJHS split its matches Saturday at Morton Junior High School, losing 25-15, 25-21 to Frankfort Hickory Creek in the semifinals and rebounding to beat Morton Junior High 23-25, 25-23, 25-19 in the third-place match.

Danilee Breckenkamp finished with six service points and three aces against Frankfort Hickory Creek, while Ramsey Cloninger had five service points and Nora Thomas had two aces. Against Morton, Kate Geiselman led the Comets with 16 service points and three aces, while Willow Koehler had eight service points and three aces.

The Comets finish the season with a 29-2 record.

Playing in the Class 2A tournament at Auburn High School, Liberty suffered a 25-13, 25-17 loss to Bunker Hill Wolf Ridge in the semifinals before falling 25-17, 24-26, 25-18 to Champaign St. Matthew in the third-place match.

Adalyn Logsdon led Liberty with four service points against Bunker Hill Wolf Ridge, while Kenzie Obert had three service points. Against Champaign St. Matthew, Hope Klauser had five service points, while Weslee John, Isabelle Shaffer and Iyla Cramsey had four service points apiece.

The Eagles finish the season with a 22-6 record.
