Prep volleyball: Chargers roll to back-to-back victories ahead of Lady Suns Classic

MOUNT STERLING, Ill. — The Illini West volleyball team is picking up steam. After opening the season with a straight-sets victory over Camp Point Central, the Chargers swept Brown County on Thursday night, winning 26-24, 25-16.

Illini West got everyone involved in the attack, too.

Madalyn Boyer and Reagan Reed led the Chargers with eight kills apiece, while Josie Bryan had six kills and 10 assists. Reed also had nine digs, 11 service points and two aces. Kaelynn Ferrill added seven digs, and Corin Robinson had seven service points and five assists.

The Chargers will face Western at 5 p.m. Tuesday in pool play at the Lady Suns Classic at Southeastern High School. Brown County and Payson Seymour are also in the same pool in the 12-team event.

Bombers outlast Crimsons in three sets

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. — The Macomb volleyball team roared back after losing the opening set Thursday night and earned a three-set victory over Jacksonville. The Bombers won 24-26, 25-13, 25-17.

Kathryn Lukkarinen led Macomb with 12 kills and two aces, while Quinn Rexroat had 27 assists, Ellie Duncan had nine digs, Jaque Adair had six kills and Madeline McClure added five kills and two blocks.
