Pole positions: Taking look at career rankings in five current classes at Adams County Speedway

Adams-County-Speedway

QUINCY — Four active drivers entered the current season with No. 1 all-time Muddy River Sports rankings among the five weekly classes at Adams County Speedway.

Dave Wietholder is No. 1 in the UMP modified series, which has been a weekly class at 8000 Broadway since 2009, while Denny Woodworth is atop the crate late model rankings, a series that has been around since 2017.

Tanner Klingele is No. 1 in the sport mod division, which dates to 2011, with Kim Abbott earning the top spot in the 4-Cylinders, which evolved from the sport compacts and have been around since 2011.

The lone class without an active driver ranked No. 1 is the stock car division, where Abe Huls rules the roost, even though he has not raced full-time at the track since 2016. The stocks have been a weekly series since 2008.

The rankings take into account all divisions at the track since it opened in 1975. Each year in each class the top 10 drivers receive points on a 15-10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 scale. Their points are added up through the years in each series, which determine their ranking.

Numerous classes have come and gone in that time, most notably the open/super late models, “A” Modifieds, “B” modifieds and the bombers. Drivers who were No. 1 in those retired rankings were Mark Burgtorf (open/super late models), Hank DeLonjay (“A” mods), Tony Dunker (“B” mods) and Eddie Dieker (bombers).

Here’s a rankings breakdown the five current classes at the speedway:
