Pittsfield’s Hull to be inducted into IBCA Hall of Fame as part of Class of 2025
QUINCY — Jack Hull has been affiliated with bringing high school sports to Pike County fans over the airwaves for more than three decades, and he’s done so by being relatable, charismatic and honest.
Those are the hallmarks of a Hall of Fame broadcaster.
Hull, a former play-by-play voice for WBBA radio and one of the founders of the Central Illinois Sports channel on YouTube, will be inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association as a media member. The IBCA announced its Class of 2025 on Monday and will be formally inducted during ceremonies May 3 on the Illinois State University campus.
Hull, along with his sons Charlie and John, began streaming audio-only versions of their radio broadcasts while covering Pittsfield High School sports on WBBA 97.5 FM. Eventually, they began streaming video as well.
That eventually morphed into the creation of Central Illinois Sports, which now brings video coverage to high school football, volleyball and basketball to viewers throughout the region. The CIS crew works more than 150 dates per year and has been contracted to do major events such as the IHSA postseason and the Quincy Shootout.
Being inducted alongside Hull in the media category are two broadcasters with local ties. Tim Kinscherf, a former Starradio play-by-play voice, and Mike Lawrence, former WTAD play-by-play voice and the co-founder of the long-running show “Sports Rap,” are also being honored.
