WHITE HALL, Ill. — The No. 2-ranked team in Class 1A needed just 24 minutes Friday night to remind everyone it deserves such respect.

The Camp Point Central football team built a 40-point lead by halftime and cruised to a 40-8 victory over North Greene in a Western Illinois Valley Conference cross-divisional matchup in the season opener.

Coming off a state runner-up finish last fall, the Panthers were ranked No. 2 in Class 1A to open the season and looked like a team capable of another deep playoff run. Central invoked the mercy rule running clock for the entire second half.
