BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The title may be unofficial, but it still has a nice ring to it.

Indoor track state champion.

Essentially, that’s what Mendon Unity junior Saylor Barry earned last weekend at the Illinois Top Times meet at the Shirk Center on the Illinois Wesleyan University campus. The Illinois High School Association does not conduct an indoor track state tournament series, so the Top Times Meet is the de facto state championships.

Barry won the Class 1A long jump and 60-meter dash, while also finishing fifth in the 200 dash. She was one of four area track and field standouts to medal at the event.

Coming off winning the Class 1A long jump state championship last may at the outdoor state track meet in Charleston, Ill., Barry won the indoor event with a leap of 5.75 meters (18 feet, 10 inches), which established a new Class 1A track record.

In the 60-meter dash, Barry won in 7.74 seconds, clipping West Carroll’s Emma Randecker by one-hundredth of a second. She finished fifth in the 200 dash in 26.13 as Randecker won in 25.21 seconds.

Macomb’s Aubrey Holthaus finished second in the high jump in Class 2A, clearing 1.60 meters (5 feet, 3 inches).

In the boys Class 1A meet, West Hancock’s Nolan Gooding was fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.72 meters (41 feet, 8.75 inches) and eighth in the long jump with a leap of 6.24 meters (20 feet, 5.75 inches). Illini West’s Chase Mudd was 12th in the 800 run in 2:06.14.
