Longcor receives first-team all-state plaudits from IBCA, eight others pick up honors
QUINCY — A trio of Quincy High School boys basketball players received all-state honors from the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association and led a brigade of nine area players overall to receive plaudits.
Quincy senior guard Bradley Longcor III received first-team honors in Class 4A, while Blue Devils senior forward Keshaun Thomas was a third-team selection and senior guard Dom Clay earned special mention.
In Class 2A, West Hancock junior center Cooper Knowles was a second-team selection, while Quincy Notre Dame junior guard Jace Allensworth was a third-team pick. Earning special mention were West Hancock senior guard Lewis Siegfried and Illini West junior forward Wesley Robertson.
In Class 1A, Payson Seymour senior guard Blake Schwartz was a third-team honoree, while Mendon Unity junior guard Sawyer Allen received special mention.
The 6-foot-3 Longcor, who was named the MVP of the Western Big 6 Conference, averaged 17.1 points and led the Blue Devils with 149 assists. The Santa Clara signee finished as the second-leading scorer in program history and the all-time leader in 3-pointers, while leading Quincy to a 31-4 record and super-sectional berth.
The 6-foot-6 Thomas averaged 14.2 points and 8.8 rebounds to earn first-team All-WB6 honors, while setting the single-game and career records for rebounding. He has committed to NCAA Division II Drury. The 6-foot-3 Clay averaged 11.7 points and shot 40 percent from 3-point range.
The 6-foot-8 Knowles was the region’s most imposing defensive force, averaging 13.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 5.9 blocks as the Titans won 28 games. Knowles shot 68.9 percent from the field. The 6-foot-2 Allensworth averaged 14 points and six rebounds per game in leading the Raiders to 17 victories.
The 6-foot-3 Siegfried, who has committed to Carl Sandburg college, averaged 13.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists, while the 6-foot-1 Robertson averaged 14.9 points and 6.6 rebounds
The 6-foot Schwartz averaged 18 points per game and set the Payson all-time scoring record with more than 1,600 career points. The 6-foot Allen averaged 14 points per game.
