Liquor Booth Shot of the Game: Mustangs’ Obert belts three-run walk-off home run
MENDON, Ill. — One swing gave Aidan Obert the memory for a lifetime.
The Unity baseball team trailed Southeastern 5-1 going to the sixth inning last Friday when the Mustangs began piecing together a rally. With one out, Cody Shaffer walked, Obert was hit by a pitch and Bryson Muegge reached on an error to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed one run to score, and Maynard delivered a two-out, two-run single.
The Suns scratched one of those runs back in the top of the seventh, making it a 6-4 lead. Melvin McClelland walked leading off the bottom of the inning for the Mustangs, and Shaffer kept hope alive with a two-out single.
Enter Obert.
He took the first pitch from Southeastern reliever Danny Stephens for a ball and jacked the next pitch over the left-field fence for a three-run walk-off home run and a 7-6 victory.
That blast is this week’s Liquor Booth Shot of the Game.
