Liquor Booth Shot of the Game: Liberty’s Wolf hits pair of crucial 3-pointers
AUGUSTA, Ill. — The final 3-pointer Cannen Wolf made in regulation Tuesday night would have been considered one of the most impactful shots of the early portion of the boys basketball season.
He made another trey just as meaningful moments later.
In a showdown with Southeastern on Tuesday night — both teams were ranked in the top 10 of the initial Associated Press Class 1A state poll — Wolf made a 3-pointer at the end of regulation to tie the game at 49 and force overtime. He then beat the buzzer with another 3-pointer at the end of the first overtime to extend the game.
It took four overtimes to decide it, but the Eagles survived 71-67 to improve to 5-1.
“Mainly, I was thinking I’ve got to take these shots and make them count,” said Wolf, a senior guard. “Ultimately, in my head, these are big, big-time shots and I’ve got to be able to make them. I had the world lifted away from me because my teammates and my coaches have the utmost confidence in my shot. I know they’ll be there to back me up if I don’t make it.
“It really relieves a lot of pressure off you.”
Wolf made four 3-pointers and finished with a team-leading 25 points.
His buzzer beater at the end of the first overtime is this week’s Liquor Booth Shot of the Game.
