QUINCY — Adams County Speedway officials are ushering in the new year with some good news for local dirt-track fans.

There will be weekly racing on Sunday nights after all.

Jimmy and Tammy Lieurance, co-promoters of the track, along with race director Nathan Anders, confirmed to Muddy River Sports the .295-mile race site at 8000 Broadway will be again be a weekly venue.

That decision reverses a plan announced last fall that the track would be introducing an every-other-weekend format during July and August in 2024, due to attendance problems in the latter of half of the 2023 season.

The Lieurances and Anders said the decision to maintain weekly racing came after several meetings with members of a community advisory board that was assembled after the 2023 season.

“We got a lot of good ideas for the future from a group of community members, businessmen, car owners and fans,” Jimmy Lieurance said. “They provided a lot of good ideas, and I think everyone is excited now about what the future holds.”

Tammy Lieurance said the track will have added sponsorships for the coming seasons, along with more corporate input and involvement.

“Every night this season will have some sort of theme or a corporate sponsor,” she said. “There are already companies working on establishing special nights for their employees at the track.”

The season is scheduled to open April 28.

The track will again see weekly competition for the crate late model, modified, sport mod, street stock and 4-Cylinder classes, plus specials for the popular MLRA (May 5), DIRTCar Summer Nationals Hell Tour (June 19), MARS (July 21) and Extreme Midget (Sept. 15) classes. Also on tap will be the annual Chad McCoy Memorial Race and various King of the Bullring competitions.

The crate late models may be the breakout class of the upcoming season.

“I’m looking for an average of 20 late models each week,” Anders said. “There are a lot of new cars being prepared.”

The crate lates averaged 14.5 cars in 2023, which was third behind the mods (17.5) and sport mods (15.6). The 4-Cylinders (13.3) and stocks (11.1) rounded out the weekly lineup.

An average of 69.2 cars were on hand each week, with a high of 89 on Oct. 1

Defending track champs are Tommy Elston in the crate late models, Austen Becerra in mods, Logan Cumby in sport mods, Jake Powers in stock cars and Jeffrey DeLonjay in 4-Cylinders.

The midseason championship will be June 23. Season championship night is set for Aug. 25.

The only off nights in the coming season will be June 16 (for track prep for the June 19 Hell Tour date) and July 28 (for the Adams County Fair).

The Lieurances and Anders said fans should immediately notice a difference in the lighting at the track. There are numerous new lighting fixtures (and poles) ready to be put up once weather permits.

“There will also be a new electronic scoring system tied into the scoreboard that we think fans will really appreciate and enjoy,” Jimmy Lieurance said. “There will also be a new victory lane area near the start-finish line.”

The annual track banquet is Jan. 20 at the Machinists Lodge, 2929 N. Fifth. Social hour is at 5 p.m. dining at 6 p.m. and awards at 7 p.m.

In another announcement, the annual mall show will be March 23-24 at the Quincy Town Center.
