Holiday Tournament Roundup: Top seeds hold, create intriguing semifinals at Lady Tiger Classic
BEARDSTOWN, Ill. — The seeds have held true so far. Can that happen one more day?
The top four seeds in the Beardstown Lady Tiger Classic advanced to the semifinals Tuesday in convincing fashion. The path to the title game gets more arduous now.
On one side of the bracket, second-seeded Havana and third-seeded Illini West square off at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. On the other side, top-seeded Mendon Unity and fourth-seeded Brown County meet at 7 p.m. The winners go head-to-head for the title at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The Mustangs found their way to the semifinals with a 79-41 blistering of Abingdon-Avon. Ashlynn Arnsman led the Mustangs with 16 points, while Kyra Carothers added 11.
The Hornets outscored Illini Bluffs 17-6 in the third quarter and posted a 56-41 victory. Klare Flynn knocked down three 3-pointers in the first quarter and scored a game-high 22 points for Brown County, while Katey Flynn added 15 points.
The Chargers set up the matchup with the Ducks by pounding Jacksonville Routt 54-20. Illini West outscored Routt 18-3 in the first quarter and led 30-9 at halftime. Rylee Reed led the Chargers with 16 points, and Caydee Kirkham added 14.
