Golf roundup: Saukees win own invitational, Blue Devils third in loaded field, Bombers take second
PITTSFIELD, Ill. — The Pittsfield boys golf team took advantage of playing on its home course Saturday, posting three scores in the 80s to capture the team championship of the Pittsfield Invitational at Old Orchard Country Club.
The Saukees shot a 345, followed by Illini West at 351 and Rushville-Industry at 381.
Illini West’s Nolan Deitrich and Nick Bruns were the only players in the field to break 80, finishing first and second individually with rounds of 78 and 79. Pittsfield had the next three top individuals — Nolan Daniel at 82, Abe Welbourne at 83 and Jameson Noble at 89.
Pittsfield’s Brennan Tomhave, Illini West’s Colby Robertson and Brown County’s Sam Carr each shot a 91.
Blue Devils take third in Joliet
JOLIET, Ill. — The Quincy High School girls golf team overcame stormy conditions early in Saturday’s round and played solid on the back nine to finish third in the Joliet Township Invitational at Wedgewood Golf Course.
The Blue Devils posted a 322. Edwardsville won the title with a 310 and Neuqua Valley posted a 321.
Quincy sophomore Sophia Gold shot a 71 to finish third individually, while senior Saya Geisendorfer posted a 75 to tie for seventh. Maddie O’Brien shot an 85 and Dulaney Bennett posted a 91.
Bombers second in own invite
MACOMB, Ill. — The Macomb boys golf team shot a 324 on Saturday and finished second in the 48th annual Gary Saunders Invitational at Macomb Country Club.
Connor Watson led the Bombers with a 75, while Justice Keene and Hunter Wilson each carded an 81. Geneseo won the team title with a 323, while Burlington (Iowa) was third with a 325.
