Golf roundup: QND boys use title at Galesburg as springboard into postseason
GALESBURG, Ill. — The Quincy Notre Dame boys golf team is heading into the postseason on quite a roll.
Three days after winning the West Central Conference championship with a 291 team total, the Raiders captured the title of Saturday’s Silver Streaks Invitational at Bunker Links by placing five individuals in the top 10 and posting a 308 total.
In between those two events, the Raiders also finished third at the Normal U-High Invitational on Friday with a 318 total in windy, rainy, chilly conditions.
Saturday, junior Connor Craven finished tied for second with a 74, while seniors Cole Willer and Zane Douglas were fifth and seventh, respectively, and senior Ross Thompson and freshman Beau Eftink tied for 10th.
Quincy High School posted a 332 with Ben Weber shooting a 79 to finish ninth.
Gold, Blue Devils finish first at Bunker Links
GALESBURG, Ill. — Another tournament, another title for the Quincy High School girls golf team.
The Blue Devils posted a 335 total Saturday to win the Silver Streaks Invitational at Bunker Links, with Macomb finishing second at 380 and Metamora third at 382.
Quincy sophomore Sophia Gold was the individual medalist, shooting a 72, while teammate Saya Geisendorfer was third with a 78. The Blue Devils’ Piper Phillips shot a career-low 91 to finish sixth. Macomb’s Trinity Christensen fired an 85 to take fourth and Kendall Oest was eighth with a 94.
Chargers win title, Arnold tops leaderboard
RUSHVILLE, Ill. — The Illini West boys golf team finished the regular season on a high note, winning the Club Milby Invitational on Saturday at Scripps Park Golf Course by posting a 326 team total. The Chargers’ Nick Bruns took second with a 73, while Nolan Deitrich was third with a 75.
Liberty’s Blake Arnold won the individual title with a 72.
