Game Night Guide: Conference showdowns and playoff implications on tap for Week 4

QUINCY — Week 4 of the prep football season brings us key conference matchups and will have playoff implications for some teams. Here’s what to look forward to this Friday night, and remember to join us for Muddy Night Lights at 10 p.m.:

Quincy High School (3-0) at Moline (2-1), 7 p.m.

Did you know?: Both teams come into the game averaging better than 40 points and the Maroons are coming off a 51-21 drubbing of Geneseo. The Blue Devils have won 10 consecutive Western Big 6 Conference games, but they have beaten the Maroons only twice in the past decade. Coincidentally, the Blue Devils won the WB6 championship both times.. 

Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin (2-1) at Quincy Notre Dame (2-1), 7 p.m.

Did you know?: This is believed to be the first meeting between the two private schools located within the Springfield Diocese and the end of the Raiders’ four-game homestand to open the season. QND moved up to No. 4 in the Class 2A state poll this week, while SHG is receiving votes in the Class 5A poll.

Hannibal (1-2) at Fulton (0-3), 7 p.m.

Did you know?: The Pirates hit the road for the third consecutive week, this time opening North Central Missouri Conference play in what will be the second-to-last conference meeting with the Hornets. Fulton announced in June it will be joining the Tri-County Conference beginning in 2026.

Clark County (0-3) at South Shelby (3-0), 7 p.m.

Did you know?: The Cardinals, who are averaging 55.3 points per game, face a defense that is allowing 42.7 points per game. The Indians have scored just two touchdowns this season..

Unity-Payson (0-3) at Camp Point Central (2-1), 7 p.m.

Did you know?: The Mustangs lost three of their first four games last season and then won five straight to reach the playoffs. A similar run is going to be necessary again this season. The Panthers, ranked fourth in Class 1A, have won 14 consecutive WIVC North Division games.

Brown County (1-2) at Triopia (1-2), 7 p.m.

Did you know?: The Hornets have allowed just 16 points this season, including shutting out Unity-Payson last week. The Trojans have scored only 14 points this season and were shut out last week by Jacksonville Routt.

West Hancock (0-3) at Macomb (3-0), 7 p.m.

Did you know?: The difference is defense. The Bombers and Titans have scored the same amount of points this season — 92 — but Macomb has allowed just 33 points, while the Titans have allowed 189 points.

Did you know?: This begins a stretch of three consecutive games for the Chargers against winless opponents. The Chargers have scored just 18 points this season, the fewest in the Lincoln Trail-Prairieland Large Division.

Did you know?: The Panthers rushed for 536 yards in last week’s 56-12 victory over Macon with Wyatt Augspurg picking up 347 yards and three touchdowns. The Cougars have been outscored 123-22 this season, while the Panthers have scored  110 points.

Monroe City (1-2) at Centrala (2-1), 7 p.m.

Did you know?: Monroe City, which is coming off a 44-22 loss to South Shelby last week, has lost back-to-back games twice in the last five seasons and both times it included a loss to Centralia. Meanwhile, Centralia has rebounded from its season-opening loss to Mexico by scoring 92 points combined in the past two weeks.

Van-Far (3-0) at Mark Twain (1-2), 7 p.m.

Did you know?: The Tigers have managed just six points each of the past two weeks, while the Indians have scored 134 points this season. Van-Far is 3-0 for the first time since 2017.
