QUINCY — Conference clashes, a crosstown showdown and a cornucopia of games taking place at John Wood Community College’s Student Activity Center highlight the final weekend before the Christmas break.

It starts with the Quincy High School boys basketball team, tied for first place in the Western Big 6 Conference with Rock Island, squares off against Moline at Blue Devil Gym. Meanwhile, Quincy Notre Dame opens West Central Conference play at Central.

Saturday night at the Pit, QHS and QND renew their city series for the seventh straight season, although this time it’s back in its rightful place as a mid-December matchup. The Blue Devils won the first five in the series since it was revived in 2015. The Raiders won last season at Blue Devil Gym.

Before heading to QND on Saturday, a stop on the JWCC campus offers the chance to see a slew of games. The Rumble on the River begins with eight games, including the Quincy Notre Dame and Quincy High School girls playing back-to-back in the afternoon.
