Five area football standouts will participate in Illinois Shrine Bowl

QUINCY — Five area prep football standouts have been selected to play in the Illinois Shrine Bowl, taking place June 17 at Illinois Wesleyan College in Bloomington.

Quincy High School cornerback Gregory Quince and Quincy Notre Dame linebacker Jackson Stratton will be on the blue squad. Central running back Isaac Genenbacher, Central center Owen Roth and Macomb linebacker Ethan Ladd will play for the red squad.

Quince made 48 tackles and had two interceptions as the Blue Devils finished 8-3 and reached the second round of the Class 6A playoffs. Stratton led the Raiders with 81 tackles to go along with seven tackles for loss, one sack and one interception as QND finished 5-5.

Genebacher rushed for 1,037 yards and 17 touchdowns and caught 21 passes for 405 yards and five touchdowns as the Panthers reached the Class 1A state championship game. Roth anchored an offensive line that churned out 308.1 yards rushing per game and 4,978 yards of total offense as the Panthers won 13 consecutive games.

Ladd racked up 110 tackles with two interceptions and two fumble recoveries as the Bombers set a school record by winning their first 10 games and reaching the second round of the Class 4A playoffs.
