Eagles’ Wolf to run at state meet

ELMWOOD, Ill. — Cannen Wolf’s determination will allow him to run his final high school cross country race where he envisioned it ending.

The Liberty senior turned in one of his most controlled and complete runs of the season Saturday, finishing third at the Class 1A Elmwood Sectional to earn a berth in the state championship meet next weekend at Peoria’s Detweiler Park.

Wolf finished in 16 minutes, 1.93 seconds. West Hancock senior Miles Sheppard won the individual title in 15:06.71 and led the Titans to a third-place finish as a state berth as a team. Normal U-High won the team title.

Liberty sophomore Devon Funk finished 46th (17:37.23) and Quincy Notre Dame freshman Joe Warning was 49th (17:41.43).

On the girls side, Liberty sophomore Arianna Neisen was 31st (20:55.44) and Quincy Notre Dame senior Teresa Drotar finished 39th (21:26.13).
