Cross country roundup: Liberty’s Neisen runs among top contenders at Spartan Invitational

ST. JOSEPH, Ill. — In a field of 140 cross country runners, mostly from the Champaign-Urbana area, Liberty junior Ariana Neisen proved yet again she belongs in the lead pack.

Neisen finished third individually, posting a time of 17 minutes, 41.47 seconds at the Spartan Invitational hosted by St. Joseph-Ogden. Tolono Unity junior Erica Woodard won the race in 17:12.28. Only five runners broke the 18-minute mark.

In the boys race, Liberty’s Lane Obert broke 17 minutes, posting a time of 16:59.08 to finish 39th individually among 169 runners.

QND girls take first in Monmouth-Roseville Invite

MONMOUTH, Ill. — The Quincy Notre Dame girls cross country team had seven of the top 11 runners Saturday at the Monmouth-Roseville Invitational at Monmouth Park, scoring 29 team points to distance itself from Mercer County.

Makayla Patton led the Raiders with a fourth-place finish in 22:47.6. Abigail Genenbacher was sixth in 23:05.6, followed by Natalie Farah (seventh, 23:15.6), Meghan Spears (eighth, 23:22.9), Addison Koch (ninth, 23:51.2), Mia Coval (10th, 23:54.4) and Aidyn Koch (11th, 24:05.6).

Mercer County’s Eden Mueller ran away from the field, finishing 40 seconds ahead of everyone in 19:33.7 to win the race.

In the boys race, QND finished second behind Mercer County with 56 points. Joseph Warning was fourth individually for the Raiders, posting an 18:04.5. Logan Sutton finished eighth in 18:04.5.
