Chargers’ Deitrich in high jump finals at Illinois boys state track, Eagles’ Gimm to throw in discus

CHARLESTON, Ill. — Three Quincy High School runners were unable to advance to the finals in the Class 3A boys state track and field championships during Friday’s preliminaries at O’Brien Stadium on the Eastern Illinois University campus.

Boen Brockmiller placed 27th in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 22.90 seconds, while Eric McClelland was 34th in the 800 run in 1 minute, 59.74 seconds, and Tommy Hess ran a 2:01.34 in the 800 to place 42nd.

Thursday, Illini West’s Nolan Deitrich qualified for the finals, finishing fifth in the preliminaries in the high jump by clearing 1.85 meters. Liberty’s Tanner Gimm will compete in the discus finals on Saturday as well.

In the 100 dash, Liberty’s Alex Girardin ran an 11.17, while teammate Keegan Sunde ran an 11.19. Both finished in the top 15, although neither made it into the finals. Both finished in the top 20 in the 200 dash as well with Girardin running a 22.50 and Sunde a 22.73. Illini West’s Max Dittmer was 24rd in the 200, running a 23.09. Dittmer was 31st in the 100, finishing in 11.47..

No one else cracked the top 20 in an individual event, and none of the relay teams advanced to the finals.
