Carthage foursome, Quincy Catholic’s Hulett advance to IESA state golf tournament

LINCOLN, Ill. — Two area golfers finished in the top eight individually at the Illinois Elementary School Association sectional, while the Carthage Middle School boys golf team won the sectional crown to advance to the state tournament.

Carthage eighth grader Nolan Murphy shot a 77 to tie for second individually and lead his team to the title with a 355 total, 20 strokes better than Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell at the Lincoln Elks Golf Course.

Bryson Grotts shot a 90 for the Carthage squad, while Jack Duffy posted a 93 and Bryton Gavillet shot a 95. All four Carthage golfers — all eighth graders — finished in the top 20 individually.

Quincy Catholic eighth grader Keedan Hulett shot an 86 to tie for seventh individually and advance as an individual. Quincy Catholic’s Michael Lepper missed the cut by one stroke, shooting an 87. Quincy Junior High School’s Andrew Ali finished tied for 13th with a 92.

The IESA state golf tournament will be played Sept. 15 at Metamora Fields Golf Club in Metamora, Ill.
