Brown County eighth graders continue lockdown defense, win IESA Class 2A state championship

KANKAKEE, Ill. — The trend continued and it led to a championship.

The Brown County eighth-grade boys basketball team put the clamps on each of its opponents in the first quarter of each Illinois Elementary School Association Class 2A state tournament game, including Thursday night’s title tilt against Assumption Central A&M.

The Hornets allowed just eight points in the opening frame, building an 18-8 advantage and finishing off a remarkable season with a 51-33 victory at Bishop McNamara High School.

Brown County (29-1) didn’t allow more than eight points in the first quarter in any of the three games at the state tournament, outscoring three opponents 42-21 in the process.

Henry Ingram led the Hornets with 19 points, while Beau Little made two 3-pointers and scored 16 points. Bradley Markert and Michael Kassing with seven points apiece

Rhett McLain had 21 points for Assumption Central A&M.
