LANCASTER, Mo. — One day after playing in a hail storm, Trevor Biggerstaff and the Canton boys golf team enjoyed teeing it up under a sun-splashed sky.

The Tigers’ play mirrored the weather.

Biggerstaff earned individual medalist honors by shooting a 1-under 71 and Canton won the team title with a 328 total Wednesday in the Schuyler County Invitational at Lancaster Country Club. Avery Uhlmeyer was sixth with an 83, while Aiden Gaither and Caleb Cox both shot 87.

Simon hurls Saukees past Tornadoes

PITTSFIELD, Ill. — Lila Simon hurled a one-hit shutout as the Pittsfield softball team beat Griggsville-Perry 11-0 in five innings on Wednesday. Simon struck out 10 and walked none. Grace Henry homered and drove in three runs, while Rebecca Neupauer scored three times and Emma Wombles had two hits and four RBIs for the Saukees (12-4).

Blue Devils blast four home runs

MENDON, Ill. — Kate Mettemeyer hit one of the Quincy High School softball team’s four home runs and drove in a team-high eight runs during Wednesday’s 26-11 victory over Mendon Unity. 

Mettemeyer finished 4 for 5, while Kayden Smith went 4 for 4 with a double, a triple and four RBIs for the Blue Devils (8-6). Ariana Adorno went 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs. Carlee Gilker struck out six in earning the victory. Sophia Shaffer went 3 for 4 with two doubles, a home run and seven RBIs for the Mustangs.

Balanced attack carries Chargers

CARTHAGE, Ill. — The Illini West softball team had six players collect two hits apiece in Wednesday’s 11-2 victory over Liberty. Madalyn Boyer homered and drove in two runs, while Rachel James also drove in two runs. Boyer struck out one and allowed three hits in earning the victory. Claire Obert drove in a run for the Eagles. 

Cougars, Bliven shut out Mustangs

PHILADELPHIA, Mo. — Cason Bliven struck out seven, walked one and allowed five hits in the Highland baseball team’s 9-0 victory over Marion County on Wednesday. All five hits Bliven allowed were singles. He helped himself by going 3 for 4 with two runs scored. Brock Schneider had two hits for the Cougars. 

Bixby edges Tomhave in pitchers’ duel

NEW BERLIN, Ill. — Pittsfield right-hander Brennan Tomhave and New Berlin left-hander Lucas Bixby engaged in a pitchers’ duel Wednesday with the Pretzels making a two-out run in the third inning last for a 1-0 victory. Tomhave struck out five, walked none and allowed four hits. Bixby struck out 13, walked none and allowed three hits.

Chargers’ Kinnamon tosses three-hitter

CARTHAGE, Ill. — Max Kinnamon struck out 11 and allowed just three hits in hurling the Illini West baseball team to a 5-0 victory over Abingdon/Avon on Wednesday. The Chargers (16-3) backed Kinnamon with runs in four consecutive innings as Wesley Robertson drove in three runs. Carter Chapin and Nick Bruns had two hits apiece for Illini West.
