Around the area: Blue Devils win another dual, Neupauer walks off with homer, Wolves stay energized offensively

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — The Quincy High School boys tennis team continues to pile up dual victories.

Friday night’s effort against a traditional Western Big 6 Conference powerhouse is a sign of good things to come.

The Blue Devils beat Moline 7-2 in a neutral-site dual, winning a pair of tiebreakers and getting solid play from the bottom of the lineup. The Maroons have won 35 WB6 championships.

Trevor Nelson and Arrow Crist picked up a 6-2, 3-6 (10-6) victory at No. 3 doubles, while the No. 2 doubles tandem of Jason Derian and Anderson Knapp scored a 6-0, 6-4 victory. In singles, Derian outlasted the Maroons’ Christian Heim 6-2, 2-6 (10-5) at No. 3. Ethan Stark won his No. 4 singles match 6-0, 6-0, while Surya Reddy, Knapp and Crist each won in straight sets.

The Blue Devils are 13-5 in duals and are scheduled to face Troy Triad on Saturday and then take on Quincy Notre Dame at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Reservoir Park.

Neupauer’s walk-off home run lifts Saukees

PITTSFIELD, Ill. — Rebecca Neupauer’s two-run home run to center field with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday allowed the Pittsfield softball team to walk off with a 4-2 victory over Triopia. Neupauer walked twice and scored three of the Saukees’ runs. Kelsey Freesmeyer allowed two runs and two hits over seven inning with nine strikeouts to earn the victory.

Wolves rattle bats once again in victory

BEARDSTOWN, Ill. — The Pleasant Hill softball team’s offense is proving to be tough to harness. The Wolves collected 14 hits, including three doubles, in Friday’s 9-1 victory over Beardstown. Four players had two hits apiece with Ava Wombles scoring three runs and McKinley Lowe driving in three. Lowe struck out 13 and allowed three hits to earn the victory.

Doubles galore carry Raiders

PAYSON, Ill. — Caitlin Bunte and Lauren Miller each doubled twice and the Quincy Notre Dame softball team scored eight runs in the fifth inning of an 11-1 victory over Payson Seymour on Friday. Miller went 3 for 3 with three RBIs, while Brooke Boden was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Bunte allowed one run and three hits with six strikeouts and no walks.

Adorno powers Blue Devils past Panthers

QUINCY — Ariana Adorno doubled and homered as part of a 3-for-4 effort in the Quincy High School softball team’s 13-8 victory Friday over Camp Point Central. Kate Mettemeyer went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Carlee Gilker struck out four and allowed one earned run over five innings to earn the victory. Emma Stephens had two hits and Adisen Mace scored three runs for the Panthers.

Strong start carries Pirates on road

MARSHALL, Mo. — A four-run first inning catapulted the Hannibal baseball team to an 8-6 victory over Marshall in North Central Missouri Conference play. Arthaud went 3 for 3 with two doubles, while Ryan Ross was 2 for 3 with a triple. Graysen Crabill struck out six and allowed no earned runs over five innings for the Pirates.

Indians use big sixth inning to take lead

BEARDSTOWN, Ill. — The Payson Seymour baseball team erased a two-run deficit by scoring five times in the sixth inning and holding on for a 5-4 victory over Beardstown on Friday. Ashton Ertz’s RBI double tied the game and Hunter Miller followed with a two-run double for the lead. Wyatt Niesen earned the victory, allowing one earned runs while striking out three.
