Around the area: Allison lifts Panthers to victory, Pirates’ offense rolls, Allen tosses shutout for Saukees

CAMP POINT, Ill. — Braizley Allison came through in the clutch.

With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning Tuesday and the Camp Point Central and Payson Seymour softball teams knotted at 8, Allison singled through the left side of the infield to drive in Anna Peters with what turned out to be the winning run in the Panthers’ 9-8 victory.

Emma Stephens retired the Indians in order in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

Payson tied the game at 8 in the top of the sixth as Olivia Mock and Josie Fessler followed a pair of two-out walks with back-to-back RBI singles. Peters doubled with one out in the bottom of the sixth, went to third on a groundout and scored on Allison’s hit.

Olivia Hofmann went 3 for 4 with an RBI for Central, while Peters, Stephens and Allison each had two hits. Megan Kirby, Grace Klitz, Mock and Fessler had two hits apiece for Payson.

Defending state champ stymies Blue Devils

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. — A goal by Saint Louis University-bound Rylann Law midway through the second half gave the Chatham Glenwood girls soccer team a 1-0 victory over Quincy High School at Illinois College. QHS goalkeeper Taylor Fohey made a dozen saves, but Law’s shot caromed off the crossbar and into the net for the lone goal for the Class 2A defending state champion.

Pirates cruise after big first inning

HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Hannibal baseball team scored 11 runs in the first inning and posted a 16-0 victory over Highland on Tuesday at the Veteran Sports Complex. Kane Wilson went 2 for 3 with two doubles and three RBIs, while Colten Dryden had two hits and two RBIs for the Pirates (18-12).

Chargers collect 16 hits in victory

BEARDSTOWN, Ill. — Carter Chapin got on base and Wesley Robertson drove him home. It proved to be a lethal combination Tuesday for the Illini West baseball team as Chapin went 3 for 5 with two doubles and three runs scored and Robertson went 4 for 5 with four RBIs in a 15-4 victory over Beardstown. Shawn Watkins Jr. also had three hits for the Chargers (22-4).

Allen, Saukees shut out Eagles

PITTSFIELD, Ill. — Pittsfield right-hander Konner Allen tossed a three-hit shutout with nine strikeouts as the Saukees beat Liberty 10-0 on Tuesday. Tim Hull had two hits and drove in four runs for the Saukees (18-7), while Hayden Gratton had three RBIs and three stolen bases.

Blue Devils suffer WB6 setback

QUINCY — The Quincy High School softball team lost its fifth consecutive Western Big 6 Conference game, falling 17-3 to United Township on Tuesday. Paige Kurfman went 3 for 3 for the Blue Devils, while Ivy Winter and Avary Hlubek had two hits apiece. However, the Panthers collected 19 hits, including 11 for extra bases.
