Area youth wrestlers earn multiple podium finishes at IKWF state tournament

QUINCY — The Quincy Champions Wrestling Club had two grapplers reach the podium at the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation state tournament, held last weekend at the Peoria Civic Center.

Aubree Murphy finished second in the girls senior division 130-pound weight class, winning each of her first three matches by pinfall. She pinned Sandwich’s Alexia Caither in 4:34, Champaign’s Zaiyrah Bailey in 1:11 and Peoria’s D’Kai Cox in 2:19.

Murphy lost 6-0 to Naperville’s Anastasia Rodnikova in the championship match.

Jordyn Orr, wrestling in the girls bantam 95-pound class, won a pair of major decisions to reach the semifinals, where she suffered a 12-6 loss. She finished sixth after falling in the consolation bracket.

The Champions Club’s Aleerah Snow, wrestling in the girls bantam 55-pound class, won her opening match 5-4 before falling into the consolation bracket. She won two matches in the wrestlebacks with 6-1 and 6-0 decisions before being eliminated.

The Champions Club’s Wyld Lamborn, wrestling in the boys bantam 120-pound class, won his first match 1-0 before being eliminated in the wrestlebacks. Tru Jones, wrestling in the boys bantam 66-pound class, won his first round of wrestlebacks before being eliminated. Kale Trueblood, wrestling in the boys novice 64-pound class, and Cash Wear, wrestling in the boys novice 215-pound class, also competed at the state tournament.

The Carthage Wrestling Club’s Skylar Weisenburger, wrestling in the girls novice 115-pound class, earned a top-four finish. Weisenburger opened with a pinfall in 22 seconds before falling into the wrestlebacks. She pinned three consecutive opponents to reach the third-place match, where she lost a 9-1 decision.

Camp Point Central’s Olivia Higdon finished fifth in the girls bantam 95-pound class, finishing with a 7-4 decision in the fifth-place match.

The Quincy Little Raiders had one podium finish.

Kathlynn Sturhahn, wrestling in the girls intermediate 77-pound class, finished seventh as she won the seventh-place match with a 4-1 decision. She won her first match with a 16-0 technical fall before falling into the consolation bracket.

The Little Raiders’ Mia Megee, wrestling in the girls bantam 74-pound class, won her first match by pinfall before being eliminated with back-to-back losses. Alek Coronado, in the boys novice 93-pound class, and Braxton Kenning, in the boys senior 164-pound class, also participated in the state tournament.

Pittsfield’s Savanna Waters, wrestling in the girls novice 140-pound class, went 2-2, winning her first match in both the championship and consolation brackets before being eliminated. The Saukees’ Bryson Kindle, in the boys novice 178-pound class, and Remington Little, in the boys novice 215-pound class, were knocked out in the consolation bracket.
