Area track athletes climb podium at Illinois Top Times indoor championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — It turned out to be a medal-filled weekend for area track athletes at the Illinois Top Times indoor championships at the Shirk Center on the Illinois State University campus.

Jettason Rose led a trio of Quincy High School runners into the finals by placing in the top five in two events in the Class 3A meet, while Liberty’s Alex Girardin snatched three medals in the sprint and field events against Class 1A competition.

And Pittsfield’s Olivia Campbell captured the region’s lone championship, winning the shot put in the Class 1A field with a toss of 39 feet, 7.25 inches.

Rose finished third in the 200-meter dash in 22.67 seconds after taking fifth with a personal-best time of 7.08 seconds in the 60 dash. He ran a 7.15 in the 60 dash preliminaries.

The Blue Devils’ Anna Schuering set a new PR in the 800 run, finishing sixth in 2:20.45, and Reid Savage was 15th in the 60 high hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.79 seconds.

Girardin took second in the long jump with a lifetime-best leap of 21 feet, 2 inches. He also finished fourth in the 200 dash in 23.34 and fifth in the 60 dash in 7.11.

West Hancock’s Miles Sheppard was second in the boys 3,200 run in 9:22.68, while Liberty’s Arianna Neisen was third in the girls 3,200 run in 11:52.98.

Illini West’s Cole Kirkham was 13th in the 400 (55.29) and Max Ditmer was 14th in the 200 (24.24).
