Area Distributors Area Athlete of the Week: Illini West’s Caydee Kirkham
BEARDSTOWN, Ill. — Caydee Kirkham saved her best for last. The three efforts preceding her championship game performance at the Beardstown Lady Tiger Classic weren’t too shabby either.
The senior point guard on the Illini West girls basketball team nearly put together a triple double in a 66-51 victory over top-seeded Unity in the title game as she finished with 29 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Overall, she averaged 20.8 points in earning tournament MVP honors.
“She had that look that she was in attack mode,” Illini West coach Grant Surprenant said.
Kirkham had 21 points in the 40-32 victory over second-seeded Havana in the semifinals. She also had 14 points in a 34-point victory over Jacksonville Routt and 19 points in a 36-point victory over West Hancock.
Kirkham’s effort and consistency earned her the Area Distributors Area Athlete of the Week.
