LA JOLLA, Calif. — Beau Eftink proved he has the game to play on some of the nation’s best golf courses.

He also learned how challenging one of those courses can be.

The Quincy Notre Dame senior finished tied for 67th in a field of 212 competitors in the boys 15-18 division of the Uswing Mojing Junior World Championships, played this week on the South Course at Torrey Pines Golf Course.

Eftink enjoyed his best stretch during Wednesday’s second round when he shot an even-par 72. He made two birdies on the front nine and two bogeys on the back nine.

The NCAA Division I recruit posted scores of 6-over 78 in the first and third rounds when the par-5 18th got the better of him both days. He took a triple bogey on the 18th hole on Tuesday and carded a double bogey on the hole Thursday.

Torrey Pines is considered one of the nation’s premier municipal courses with two 18-hole tracks. It is where the PGA Tour plays the Farmer’s Insurance Open each February, and it was the site of the 2008 U.S. Open won by Tiger Woods and the 2021 U.S. Open won by Jon Rahm.

Eftink’s summer isn’t over yet.

He will tee it up in the 49th Junior PGA Championship on July 29-Aug. 1 at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex on the Purdue University campus in West Lafayette, Ind.

Eftink is a two-time Class 1A state runner-up, and this fall he will have the chance to become the first three-time state medalist in the history of the QND boys golf program. The Raiders have had six other golfers win two state medalists with Alex McCulla the last to do so when he finished as the state runner-up in 2018 and 2019.
