QHS’s St. Clair builds momentum for prep golf season by winning Gateway PGA Junior event

QUINCY — Hunter St. Clair is primed for his final high school golf season.

The Quincy High School senior won a 36-hole Gateway PGA Junior Golf event played at Spring Lake Country Club and Quincy Country Club this week, distancing himself from the rest of the field in the boys 16-18 division by seven strokes.

St. Clair finished at 1-under 141, while Carson Jones of Godfrey, Ill., was second at 6-over 148. Quincy Notre Dame’s Grant Lepper was third at 8-over 150 and Jace Little, who helped St. Charles West take third place in the Missouri Class 3 state tournament in the spring, was fourth at 12-over 154.

St. Clair opened the tournament with a 4-under 68 on Monday at Spring Lake Country Club as he played the back nine in 4-under 32. Tuesday at Quincy Country Club, he fired a 3-over 73, closing the tournament with birdie on the par-4 18th.

Jones, who will be a senior at Alton Marquette, shot the low round of the day Tuesday, posting a 2-over 72 at QCC, shooting 1-over 36 on both nines. Lepper closed Tuesday’s round of 4-over 74 with eight consecutive pars, and Little posted an even-par 35 on the back nine with one birdie and one bogey.

In the girls 16-18 division, Quincy Notre Dame’s Nancy Scholz won with a 170, while high school teammate Isabelle Boudreau was second at 176. Quincy’s Olivia Scholz and Quincy’s Elise Snider shared the title in the girls 12-14 division as both posted a 188.

Quincy’s Michael Lepper and Waterloo’s Caden Kite tied for first in the boys 14-15 division at 164, while Daniel Otto, of Lake St. Louis, Mo., won the boys 12-13 division with a 157.
