Pirates’ Novel finishes fourth in high jump on first day of Class 4 state track and field championships
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Taegen Novel is bringing home a state medal.
Four more Hannibal athletes have a chance to do the same Saturday.
Novel, a junior, finished fourth in the Class 4 high jump at the Missouri state track and field championships Friday at Adkins Stadium. Novel cleared 1.60 meters or 5 feet, 3 inches on her second attempt at that height.
Marshfield’s Grace Kimrey cleared 1.60 meters on her first attempt, which put her into third. Both Novel and Kimrey missed all three attempts at 1.62 meters. Ladue Horton Watkins junior Bella Jones won the high jump, clearing 1.64 meters or 5 feet, 4.5 inches.
In the boys 110-meter high hurdles, Hannibal junior Chance Whiteside finished 10th in 15.30 seconds. In the boys shot put, Pirates sophomore Tre Hoskins finished 10th with a throw of 15.08 meters or 49 feet, 5.75 inches.
In the girls 800 run, Hannibal senior Jocelyn Dorsey finished 11th in 2:22.16. In the girls triple jump, Pirates junior Sameya Dean finished 11th with a leap of 10.35 meters or 33 feet, 11.5 inches.
Saturday, Hannibal will have senior Kameil Crane and junior Harper Karr competing in the girls javelin, while junior Houston Morrison will compete in the boys discus and junior Cameron Davis in the boys triple jump.
