HANNIBAL, Mo. — Last Friday night on social media, it was simply dubbed “The Play.”

It likely goes down as the prep football play of the year.

With Hannibal leading West Plains 21-20 in the third quarter of the Class 4 state quarterfinal at Porter Stadium, the Pirates faced fourth and 25 when a screen pass to Aneyas Williams was called. Under immediate pressure from a West Plains outside linebacker and rushed unabated off the right end, Hannibal quarterback Courtland Watson got the pass away while being hit.

Williams caught the ball, bounced off the first would-be tackler, stepped out of the next tackle and used a Tyler Hardy block to get to the left sideline. He ran past two diving defenders and high-stepped it into the end zone for a 38-yard touchdown that propelled the Pirates to a 35-26 victory and the third state semifinal berth in program history.

The touchdown toss is this week’s Liquor Booth Shot of the Game.
