Hannibal’s Thomas shoots even par at districts, qualifies for Class 4 state tournament
WENTZVILLE, Mo. — Quinn Thomas is bookending his high school golf career with trips to the Class 4 state tournament.
Could he begin and end with state titles as well?
The Hannibal senior qualified for the state tournament by finishing tied for third Thursday at the Class 4 District 2 tournament at the Golf Club of Wentzville. Thomas shot an even-par 71, playing the front in 1-under 34 and the back in 1-over 37.
Thomas will tee it up May 13-14 at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Mo., in the state tournament.
As a freshman, Thomas shot a 9-over 80 to finish seventh at the district tournament. He then went to the Class 4 state tournament and shot rounds of 72 and 74 to post a 146 total and win the individual championship by a stroke.
Thomas is the lone Pirate advancing to state. Hannibal finished 10th as a team, shooting a 333. Kyle Locke shot a 79 and missed qualifying for state by one stroke. Jackson Karr shot an 86, while Kaisen McAfee and Camrin Lake each shot a 97.
