Hannibal’s Martin earns first-team all-state honors, while Canton’s Nelson gets second-team nod
HANNIBAL, Mo. — Abbie Martin’s incredible high school soccer career was capped with one last fitting honor.
The Hannibal senior forward was named to the Class 3 all-state first team by the Missouri High School Soccer Coaches Association. This is her third all-state nod, having been named to the second team as both a sophomore and a junior.
In Class 1, Canton goalkeeper Madilyn Nelson was named to the all-state second team.
Martin was one of 24 players named to the first team. Overall, 63 players were honored on the first and second teams and honorable mention.
The Quincy University signee led the Pirates to a 19-5 record overall and a 10-0 record in the North Central Missouri Conference as she scored 47 goals with 14 assists and nine game-winning goals. She broke the career scoring record in the third game of the season and finished her career with 170 goals, 40 more than Bella Falconer’s previous record.
Martin and junior midfielder Malia Stolte were named to the Class 3 Region 2 all-region team, as well as earning All-NCMC first-team honors.
Nelson helped the Tigers post five shutouts and finish with a 6-10-1 record. She was also named to the Class 1 Region 2 all-region squad the Region 2 Co-Goalkeeper of the Year.
