Did you know?: The Blue Devils and Redbirds have played each other in Week 1 or 2 in 26 of the past 29 seasons. They did not face each other during neither the COVID-shortened spring season in 2021 nor the 2013 and ’14 seasons when the Western Big 6 Conference was in a scheduling agreement with the Mid-State 6 Conference. Alton leads the series 16-10, having won 10 straight from 1999-2008. Last week, the Redbirds opened with a 22-12 loss at Cahokia on Saturday when the Commanches scored 22 points in the fourth quarter to erase a 12-0 deficit.

Did you know?: The Jays have won 10 state championships in their history and own the ninth longest winning streak in the nation at 71 games from 1958-66. However, it’s been more than a decade since Jefferson City last won a district championship, a drought some believe a 40-3 openingw-eek victory against Osage suggests could change. First, the Jays have to get past Hannibal, which has won five straight against Jeff City, including twice in district play. The Pirates have outscored the Jays 214-83 in those games.

Calhoun at Central (1-0), 7 p.m.
