Essig, 4×200 relay team capture state medals for Hannibal at state track and field championships
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Hannibal boys track and field team brought home two more state medals after the final round of competition Saturday in the Class 4 state championships at Jefferson City High School’s Adkins Stadium.
Pirates junior Landyn Essig finished seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.76 meters (22 feet, 2.25 inches). Essig started the competition with a leap of 6.74 meters and hit his best jump on the last of his six attempts.
Sikeston’s Christopher Artis won the long jump state title with a jump of 7.20 meters (23-7.5).
The Hannibal 4×200-meter relay team of Essig, Kade Hoskins, Chance Whiteside and Dallas Baker finished ninth in 1 minute, 28.89 seconds. Cardinal Ritter won the state title in 1:26.97.
Hannibal’s Tre Hoskins finished third in the shot put on Friday.
