Cross country roundup: Hannibal boys, girls sweep team, individual titles at Palmyra Invitational

PALMYRA, Mo. — The Hannibal boys cross country team placed three runners in the top four individually and ran away with the team title Saturday in the Palmyra Invitational at Flower City Park. Hannibal also won the girls team title.

Pirates senior Cameron Nichols rolled to a nearly 30-second victory, finishing the 3.11-mile course in 18 minutes, 3.92 seconds. South Shelby sophomore Noah Wilt was second in 18:30.30.

Hannibal sophomore David Munger finished third (18:39) and senior Eli Hess was fourth (18:56). Mark Twain sophomore Sam Northcutt was fifth in 18:59.06.

The Pirates finished with 22 team points, followed by Marion County with 71.

On the girls side, Hannibal racked up 43 team points, followed by Kirksville with 57 points.

Hannibal junior Jocelyn Dorsey and Palmyra senior Alyssa Noland finished first and second, respectively, in the girls race. Dorsey won the event in 22:13.37 and Noland finished in 22:47.87.

Palmyra freshman Maiya Reese was fourth (23:17.81), Highland junior Kaycie Stahl was fifth (23:41.68) and Monroe City junior Ella Hays (24:10.65) and sophomore Meghan Hays (24:29.59) finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

Genenbacher leads QND girls to team title

PETERSBURG, Ill. — Quincy Notre Dame junior Abigail Genenbacher led six area runners in the top 20 at the Petersburg PORTA Invitational on Saturday, guiding the Raiders to the team title.

QND finished with 66 points, followed by Litchfield with 70 points.

Genenbacher finished in 21 minutes, 5.6 seconds. Delavan freshman Annabelle LaFary won the individual title in 19:22.1.

Joining Genenbacher in the top 20 from QND were Makayla Patton (13th, 22:11.1), Nataline Farah (15th, 22:16.3), Meghan Spears (17th, 22:28.1) and Addison Koch (18th, 22:29.6).

Illini West junior Emma Whitaker was 12th in 22:09.8.

On the boys side, QND had two runners place in the top 10. Sophomore Joe Warning finished fourth in 17:28 and sophomore Logan Sutton was sixth in 17:48.

Blue Devils with top-five team finishes in deep fields

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Quincy High School boys and girls cross country teams each had a runner finish in the top 10 individually in the 54th Lee Halberg/Springfield Lanphier Invitational on Saturday at Lincoln Park.

The QHS boys finished fourth in the 13-team field as senior Eric McClelland took ninth place in 17:08. Blue Devils senior Jude Mintle finished 21st in 17:59.

On the girls side, junior Olivia Schuering took fifth individually in 19:37, while senior Alexandria Meyers was 13th in 21:08. QHS finished fifth in the 11-team field.
