HANNIBAL, Mo. — The records keep falling as the Hannibal football team keeps winning.

By the time this season is done, Courtland Watson will own every significant passing record in Pirates’ history.

In last Friday night’s 35-26 victory over West Plains in the Class 4 state quarterfinals at Porter Stadium, the senior quarterback completed 16 of 27 passes for 295 yards and five touchdowns. That effort broke the single-game passing yardage and passing touchdowns records.

Watson also broke the single-season records for passing yardage with 1,796 yards and passing touchdowns with 32 in the process. Overall this season, he has completed 97 of 152 passes (63.8 percent) and has thrown touchdown passes to five different receivers with Aneyas Williams catching a single-season record 21 TDs.

For his efforts, Watson is the Area Distributors Area Athlete of the Week.
