Wildcats return from bye week with vengeance, dismantle Yellowjackets

Culver-Stockton

LAMONI, Iowa — Two weeks to dwell on an opportunity that got away brought out an aggressive, take-no-prisoners attitude in the Culver-Stockton College football team.

Graceland felt the brunt of that.

The Wildcats built a 43-point lead, limited the Yellowjackets to 164 total yards and rolled to a 50-3 victory at Huntsman Field in the Heart of America Athletic Conference North Division opener. The victory was a solid bounce back after suffering a 65-24 loss at Benedictine on October 2.

C-SC led 6-0 on the strength of a Jordan Grant 3-yard touchdown run before scoring 20 points in the second quarter. Cody Thorne, who started at quarterback in place of Jase Orndorff, scored on an 8-yard run and threw a 5-yard scoring pass to Dominic Herrera 43 seconds before halftime. In between, senior linebacker Dalton Huffman, a Hannibal product, scored on an 8-yard fumble return.

Thorne added a 37-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, while Tyler Danzby had a 49-yard scoring jaunt and Demarion Cobb capped the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown plunge.

Danzby had 96 yards on six carries to lead the C-SC rushing attack, which churned out 329 yards on 43 carries. Thorn completed 9 of 16 passes for 116 yards and carried the ball four times for 36 yards.

The Wildcats are 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the Heart North and will travel to Dubuque, Iowa, next Saturday to face Clarke University.
