Wildcats’ Ortiz-Traylor named Heart Player of the Week

CANTON, Mo. — Culver-Stockton College forward Alonzo Ortiz-Traylor has been named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his play during the Wildcats’ four victories during the opening week of the season.

Ortiz-Traylor, a 6-foot-5, 200-pound senior who is a transfer from Georgian Court University, averaged 17.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists. He shot 48.1 percent (26 of 54) from the field, including 33.3 percent (6 of18) from beyond the 3-point arc. Ortiz-Traylor also made 78.6 percent (11 of 14) of his free-throw attempts.

Ortiz-Traylor scored in double figures in each of the four games during the week, including 22 points in a 99-93 overtime victory over Trinity International University last Saturday. He also registered a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in the Wildcats’ season-opening 74-59 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange University.

The Wildcats are 4-0 for the first time since the 2013-14 season.
