Wildcats end 26-game losing streak against Pioneers behind Orndorff’s five TD passes
OLATHE, Kan. — Jase Orndorff threw five touchdown passes as the Culver-Stockton College football team ended 26 years of frustration with a 37-19 victory over MidAmerica Nazarene University on Saturday afternoon at the Olathe District Activity Center.
It was the Wildcats’ first victory over the Pioneers since a 45-43 decision at Ellison Poulton Stadium during the 1993 season, a span of 26 games.
Things didn’t start so well as the Wildcats turned the ball over on their first possession. The Pioneers made the Wildcats pay, driving 35 yards on eight plays culminating with a 3-yard pass from CJ Fowler to Colinje Wilridge for a 7-0 lead.
Orndorff and the Wildcats answered with a 30-yard touchdown pass to Mateen Johnson and a 59-yard touchdown pass to Connor Perrine to give the Wildcats a 14-7 lead after the first quarter.
C-SC scored its third straight touchdown with 1:20 remaining in the first half when Johnson hauled in a 34-yard pass from Orndorff for a 20-7 halftime lead.
After forcing a punt on the initial possession of the second half, the Wildcats went 84 yards on just three plays to up the lead to 27-7 when Slayton Ochoa caught a 7-yard TD pass.
After the Pioneers cut the deficit to 27-13, C-SC replied with another long drive that culminated with Connor Perrine catching a 7-yard touchdown pass.
Michael Velasco added a 26-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter to increase the lead to 37-13 before MNU scored a late touchdown.
Orndorff completed 20 of 31 passes for 370 yards. Ochoa caught seven passes for 143 yards as the Wildcats churned out 513 yards of total offense.
