KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — The Quincy University women’s basketball team ran out of steam, but it wasn’t before a valiant effort.

The Hawks led Truman State by four points at the end of the third quarter Monday night in the opening round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament at Pershing Arena before the Bulldogs opened the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run.

Although the deficit never ballooned to more than six points, the Hawks couldn’t regain the edge and suffered a season-ending 67-62 loss.

Quincy finishes 9-20 in Kaci Bailey’s first season as head coach. It’s the most victories since the 2015-16 season as the Hawks won three of their final five games.

A 23-point first quarter in which the Hawks went 5 of 8 from 3-point range gave them the edge, and they maintained the lead throughout the first three quarters. However, the Bulldogs scored 23 points in the fourth quarter, going 8 of 11 from the field and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line.

Dami Adeyinka led the Hawks with 18 points, while Sarah Nelson finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
