The Rundown: JWCC men lose, C-SC sweeps hoops games, WIU shut out at home
QUINCY — The transition to winter sports is gradually happening. Here’s a look at some of the action that took place Saturday:
• The John Wood Community College men’s basketball team stumbled out of the gate and never fully recovered, losing 98-83 to 14th-ranked Kirkwood in the final game of the Town and Country Inn and Suites November Classic. Jeremiah Talton led the Trail Blazers with 30 points and seven rebounds, while Jenson Whiteman had 12 points.
• The Culver-Stockton College men’s basketball team improved to 3-1 with a 93-75 victory over East-West University in the Fairfield Inn Classic at Charles Field House in Canton, Mo. Robert Fry II had 19 points and CaRondis Anderson had 17 points and eight rebounds for the Wildcats.
• The Culver-Stockton College football team wrapped up a 5-6 season with a 17-12 loss to Peru State at the Oak Bowl in Peru, Neb. The Wildcats were just 3 of 15 on third-down conversions and scored on just two Michael Velasco field goals through the first 3 ½ quarters.
• Culver-Stockton College’s McKenzie Lathrom scored 28 points to power the C-SC women’s basketball team to an 85-52 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange on the road. The Wildcats are 3-0 to start the season.
• The Western Illinois University football team was shut out in its final home game, losing 21-0 to Indiana State at Hanson Field. The Leathernecks are 0-10 overall and 0-7 in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
