Take note for Wednesday, April 2: QND’s Maguire tosses no-no in varsity debut, McCulla ties for seventh at Memphis Intercollegiate

QUINCY — Here are some of the newsworthy moments that took place across the area sports scene on Wednesday, April 2:

• Quincy Notre Dame right-hander Kolton Maquire, a sophomore, tossed a five-inning no-hitter in his varsity debut as the Raiders beat Highland 14-0 at Ferd Niemann Jr. Memorial Ballfield. Maguire struck out nine and walked two.

• QND’s Abram Wiewel went 3 for 3 with a double, a home run and four RBIs.

• Illinois State University senior golfer Alex McCulla, a Quincy Notre Dame graduate, finished tied for seventh at the Memphis Intercollegiate. He posted a three-round total of 5-over 221 after shooting a 3-over 75 in the final round. He was the only ISU golfer in the top 30 individually.

• South Shelby’s Noah Wilt earned medalist honors in a triangular event at Three Pines Golf Course in Tolona, Mo. Wilt shot a 34 and was the only golfer in the field to break 40.
