SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Quincy University men’s basketball team made only seven field goals in the second half of Saturday’s Great Lakes Valley Conference game against Drury.

Thanks to Nate Shockey, seven was just enough.

The junior guard took a kickout from Paul Zilinskas and buried a 3-pointer with three seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Hawks to a 67-64 victory at the O’Reilly Family Event Center and give the Hawks their first road conference victory.

The Panthers had erased a five-point deficit in the final 42 seconds, tying the game on Adam Moore’s drive from the right wing with 13.7 seconds remaining in regulation. Following a Drury timeout, Quincy inbounded the ball to Zilnskas, who carried it into the frontcourt and drove to the high post.

With his action impeded, he spun at the free-throw line and kicked the ball to Shockey, who was two steps behind the 3-point stripe and confidently knocked down his third 3-pointer of the game. Drury got off a 40-foot heave at the buzzer, but Brock Wakefield’s shot hit the front of the rim and caromed away.

Quincy (5-5, 3-1 GLVC) led 41-29 at halftime but struggled offensively in the second half. The Hawks went 7 of 25 from the field (28 percent) and just 2 of 10 from 3-point range. They also allowed the Panthers to shoot 45 percent from the field.

Shockey finished with 13 points, going 3 of 5 from 3-point range, while Zilinskas had 13 points, four rebounds and three assists. Malik Hardmon added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Hawks.

Moore, who transferred to Drury as a graduate student for his final year of eligibility after playing four seasons at Quincy, scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had five assists. Trey Lewis led the Panthers (3-7, 0-4 GLVC) with 14 points
