Schnepp helps QU win Wildcat Classic crown; C-SC claims title on men’s side

QUINCY — Quincy University’s Karlie Schnepp shot a 169 to earn medalist honors on the women’s side and claim her first collegiate victory at the Wildcat Classic, held Sunday and Monday at Spring Lake Country Club. 

The Hawks’ Natalie Dearwester finished second, shooting a 176. QU golfers took the five of the top six spots. Hannah Maguire (177) was tied for third, Ashlyn Sanders was fifth at 178 and Alyson Goggin took sixth with a 181.

QU’s score of 693 was well ahead of runner-up Peru State, which had 785 strokes. Emily Grodjesk had Culver-Stockton’s best score with a 194.

Culver-Stockton College claimed the men’s title with a two-day total of 632 (318-314). Quincy University carded a 36-hold total of 655 (335-320) to place second, while William Penn was third at 668 (337-331).

Freshman Lars Werny registered a two-over 74 Monday to go along with a four-over 76 on Sunday to earn medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 6-over 150. Connor Bross placed second with a 14-over 158, while Jimmie Patterson gave the Wildcats three top-five finishers with a fifth-place finish after carding a 17-over 161.

QU’s Nick Messinger took home a third-place finish. He shot an 82 on the first day, then shot a 78 on Monday.
