QUINCY — A record-setting weekend led to Emma Wijnbergen receiving another Great Lakes Valley Conference weekly honor. The same goes for Elena Kasavica.

Wijnberegen, the Quincy University women’s volleyball team’s senior right side hitter set the program’s single-season record for kills as the No. 20 Hawks swept a pair of GLVC matches, beating No. 18 Missouri-St. Louis 25-23, 25-20, 15-25, 25-16 and McKendree 25-15, 25-22, 23-25, 25-18 as she piled up 44 kills in the two matches combined.

That earned Wijnbergen the GLVC Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season and the fourth time in her career.

Meanwhile, Kasavica dished out 102 assists in the two matches combined and directed an offense that averaged 15 kills per set and hit at a .287 clip. It earned the freshman from Serbia the GLVC Setter of the Week honor for the third time.

For the week, Wijnbergen hit .407 on 86 attempts with 26 digs, three aces and one block. She finished with 26 kills and 20 digs against McKendree and 18 kills against UMSL, breaking a 30-year-old record for single-season kills as she moved past Christy Collins, who had 502 kills during the 1994 season.

Wijnbergen currently has 518 kills in 98 sets played with two regular-season matches remaining.

In her four-year career, Wijnbergen has amassed 1,595 kills, which is second all-time behind Collins, who had 1,678 kills from 1992-95.

The Hawks (23-3, 10-1 GLVC) are on the road for the final weekend of the regular season, traveling to Lewis and Indianapolis. Quincy sits in first place in the GLVC, one game ahead of Lewis and Maryville.
